Lyrics: Somewhere out in the back of your mind
comes your real life and the life that you know
Well maybe I’m just thinking that the rooms are all on fire
She dreamed of her wanton luxury
She laughed and she cried and she tried to taunt him
And he hated to be separated from that picture
Inspiration: Out of the unreal shadows of the night comes the real
life that we had known.
Life suddenly became fiery-colored to him. It seemed to him he had been
walking in fire.
Sometimes when he was down as his great house at Nottinghamshire,
entertaining the fashionable young men of his own rank who were his
chief companions, and astounding the country by the wanton luxury
and gorgeous splendor of his mode of life, he would
suddenly leave his guests and rush back to town to see that the door
had not been tampered with and that the picture was still there.
He would laugh at anyone who tried to taunt him.
He hated to be separated from the picture that was such a
part of his life.

Stevie also found inspiration for the “Rooms On Fire” video
from the 1947 film, “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”.
The ending of the video is almost identical to the last 5-10 minutes of the film.
*Thanks to Ellen for recommending I watch the film. 🙂 *
