Rock A Little (documentation with Mick)

Jimmy: I said, sure you can come down.
Stevie: And I said, sure!
Jimmy: I said, sure.
Female Voice: It's recording now.
Jimmy: Just don't tell anybody, I mean, and you can come. So, anyway.
Female Voice: Do you want this?
Jimmy: That's fine. That's ok. So, will he be okay if you stop him?
Stevie: We're not doing...
Female Voice: It would be ok, if you stop.
Stevie: Mick, do you wanna...do you...Mick, do you wanna do this?
Mick: Yeah
Stevie: Do you want to play a couple things?
No, but I mean, like...this is gonna take five
Jimmy: Five minutes
Stevie: Five, probably, right?
Mick: Right
Jimmy: It'll take five hours. I know it, unless you take over.
Stevie: No, it's not. No.
Jimmy: You don't know the tones.
Stevie: Because, we can't even hear ourselves.
Jimmy: Ok, well forget it then.
Stevie: So, like, we know what we're doing
Female Voice: Your call, Jimmy.
Stevie: So, it's like, we're just gonna play this one song.
Jimmy: Stevie, your last name is "Barbara".
Male Voice: We wanted to do this and see what we got. My leg's asleep.
Stevie: How long?
Male Voice: You know I ain't playing it, so get over it. Sorry for the truth.
Stevie: Or, just,, you know, ask.
Jimmy: All you need is keep it from hanging up, and playing it up , it'd be cool.
Male Voice: Ok
Stevie: Listen. You know what? I acted like my piano bit her, Mick. But, since this one is more glamorous...
Mick: Play a bit of the song.
Stevie: Which song? What song should I...? Let's see, what song do I know real well that I can play?
Mick: The new one.
Stevie: Which one? The one that...the "Rock a Little" song?
Mick: The one you...you wanted to play.
Stevie: Well...see, what I did was,
I wrote, like a real cool chorus to this thing that's called "Rock a Little",
that I really like a lot.
But I could never think of a chorus.
And I think I've got a good chorus, but maybe, the chorus should be the beginning.
Jimmy: Play the song.
Stevie: Mick.
Mick: 1, 2, 3
Stevie: Alright. Well, this is what I thought would be the verse. Ok, so let me think of what it is.
Mick: See if...see if your voice's ok.
Stevie: What?
Female Voice: Just be calm.
Mick: What we want to do is like,
Stevie: Uh oh
Female Voice: You're doing a test run.
Mick: See if your voice is ok with it.

So says the moon
Then I rock a little

Female Voice: Ok, keep playing.

And I rock a little
It was just like the sea
It was just like me
Sometiems it rages

Stevie: You know what? This piano...

And I rock a little...
Even when it's calm
Still rock a little

Female Voice: My voice does it too.
Mick: That's weird.
Stevie: Now, this isn't gonna sound the same to you, Mick. So that's a bummer.
Female Voice: No, it's not. It sounds the same in all of them. You want your poem?
Stevie: Does it sound better up there, maybe? No. Well, it does in the headphones.
Female Voice: It sounds better out here.
Stevie: Lower?
Mick: Just play.
Female Voice: It sounds better out here.
Stevie: Well, I don't know. What do you think? No? You don't think?
Mick: You can't have...you can't have headphones, right? Because of the board.
Female Voice: We're not using a board
Stevie: Well, maybe I shouldn't...
Female Voice: We're...we're just ?
Mick: Alright, just...just play.

Sometimes it rages...
And I rock a little
Just like the sea
Still shake a little
Was just like me
It was just like the sea...

So says the moon
I rock a little
Well, it's just like the sea
Still shake a little
It was just like me

So says the moon....
And I shake a little....
It was just like the sea
It was just like me

Stevie: I think I'm gonna take my earphones off.
Because, it's...I don't hear enough of you.
So, play that Mick drum thing.
I wish we could record this better.
Damn! This is shitty.
Why can't they record this on a two-track, Mick?
Mick: The board's broken. Try to get past it.
Stevie: Yeah. I think I'm gonna need a percussion player?
Doesn't anybody in there play percussion?

So says the moon

Stevie: What do ya think?
Mick: I'll play the...the conga, alright?
Stevie: What?
Mick: Should I play the conga?
Stevie: Yeah. Yeah, try that.
Then you could actually have that.
If you're gonna play that, you could put this down here,
and sit right there, and it could...it would really record it well.
Because, believe me, I know.
Mick: It seems fine. Give me a note.
Stevie: Mick, it's not picking up the piano and the voice really that well at all.
It isn't. We played something back, and it didn't.
Mick: Alright.
Stevie: And then you can get close enough.
I don't know how you're gonna actually might sound.
Cause it's so close.
Scoot in if it's...I need a tiny little, tiny taste of brandy.
Come on. I've been real good all week. No?
Mick: The headphones won't work.
Stevie: Alright. Why not?
Mick: Because they're not plugged in.
Stevie: Oh. (laughs)
Male Voice: You can do without me, right?
Stevie: Oh, come on!

So says the moon
Still rock a little...
Just like the sea...
Just like me...

Sometimes it rages
And I rock a little
Just like the sea
It was just like me

Rock a little

Stevie: This is about the house shaking, Mick.
Cause it like, shakes the whole place, right?
And everybody thinks it's the big EQ everytime. Today, it was.

Say I do not walk away
Say I do not walk away...

Stevie: Any..well...anyway...what do you...
That wasn't even a good one.
Female Voice: It was good.

Waiting in dreams

Stevie: Oh, what is it?

Just to...

Mick: Careful, you're talking a bit.
Stevie: Is it recording?
Mick: Yeah, the first two.
Stevie: Yeah. And, what I was gonna say, Mick,
is that I was thinking, maybe, this part goes into the other part better.
Do you know what I mean?
Maybe the...the...this thing...actually is a better verse, and the other, the...this....

The sky never expects da na da

That...that thing.
Maybe it's better...do you know what I mean? The other way.
Mick: Well, play it one way.
Stevie: Through the eyes of a child, I ask you, knowing you have no idea.
Neither do I. See, it's perfect. No, really!
I mean, we should do...we should do this!
Mick: Play it! play it!
Stevie: I'll give you credit for this, you know.
I'll say...even though you will never give anybody credit,
because you're...you know, so out there.
Out there with Stevie Nicks, forget it.
Out there with Mick Fleetwood is like...beyond!
Anyway, what I'm saying is, if you help me do this, Mick,
I'll share it with you, really. Cause, it's like, I need help.
Mick: So I saw.
Stevie: And I'd rather, much rather work it out with you than work it out with some other,
you know, like, jerk I don't know. What, you leap? (kissy sounds)
Mick: No.
Stevie: Alright, well the first part, the...maybe the first part...part, right? It goes.
Let's see, it goes...Faster, right?
Mick: Yeah.

So says the moon

Stevie: Oh, it's...Ok, I have to...think about it for a second. Ok.

So says the moon
And I rock a little...
Just like the sea
It was just like me

Sometimes it rages
And I rock a little
Even when I'm calm
Still rock a little

Alright, we're changing here. And...

Longest...hour of waiting
Just to meet you
Power, so strong
And so fleeting...
And, say I do not walk away
Say i do not walk away

So says the moon
And I rock a little
Just like the sea...
It was just like me

Sometimes it rages

Male Voice: That was your name for a couple days. It's not what you did. Stevie?

Stevie: If...you know what?
I would much rather you play the drums here, because I can't hear you over there.
And it's like I don't get any inspiration, because it's way too....
It's good that you learn some of these new songs anyway.
Because, you know, it's like, you know.
I always like, you know, whenever I write something,
I think, well, this either, a) will make it to Fleetwood Mac or it, b) won't, and...
but I never really know, you know, so....
Can we, like, maybe turn these lights down a little bit,
I mean, if we're gonna do this, you know? He know millions.

So says the moon
So says the moon
So says the moon
So says the moon

So says the moon
And I rock a little...
Even when it's calm
Still rock a little

Stevie: See, what I'll have trouble doing is going into that chorus thing,
so you'll have to just, kinda, like...like, bear with me. Ok?

So says the moon
And I rock a little...
Even when it's calm
Still rock a little

Sometimes it rages
And I rock a little....
Just like the sea....
Still rock a little

Hours and hours
Of waiting
Just to meet you in hopes
That that dreaming
And the power is so strong
And so fleeting
And say I do not walk away...
And, I say, "I do not walk away"

So says the moon
And I rock a little
It was just like the sea
It was just like me

Sometimes it rages
And I rock a little...
Even when I'm calm
Still rock a little
Sometimes it rages
And I rock a little...
Just like the sea...
It was just like me....
Say I rock a little

So says the moon
Still rock a little
So says the moon
It was just like me
So says the moon
It was just like the sea

Rock a little
Rock a little
I hope you rock a little
Do you rock a little
You rock a little

So says the moon
So you rock a little
So says the moon
Hope you rock a little
Please rock a little
Still rock a little
No...
So says the moon
I hope you shake a little
So says the moon
I hope you rock a little

Rock a little
I still shake a little
Shake a little
Rock a little

So says the moon
Stay for a little
Stay with me now
Rock a little
Shake a little
I hope you shake a little
Shake a little

Stevie: Well...That's a good thing.
You could actually go on with that for a long time,
and build it into something real neat.
Alright. I'm rewinding it, and listening to it.

Rock A Little (alt. outtake)

Sometimes it rages
Rock a little
Even when it's calm
Still rock a little
Just like the sea
I rock a little
Say it was just like me
Still rock a little

Then you knew her
Funny little dancer
And you watched her
All night long
You were trying to learn from her teachers
One thing that she wanted
She would not be tangled up...in it

Hit it
Hit it
It's about time, Lily
Ooh...
I know Lily
Hit it
(Rock a little)
Hit the stage
Hit the stage dancing
Hit it
(Rock a little)
Hit it

She's home now
And she says
I've gone far beyond that song
Said, rock and roll ballerina
Where else would she go
He knows his daughter
Says, where does she live
He says, oh, up there somewhere
And then he says
Then he says
Go ahead, Lily

Hit it
(Go ahead, Lily)
Hit the stage dancing
It's about time, Lily
Well...
I know Lily
Rock a little
Well, it's about time, Lily
Hit it
Hit the stage
Hit it
(Rock a little)

Hit it
Lily
It's about time, Lily
Hit it
I know Lily....
(Rock a little)
It's about time, Lily
Hit the stage
Hit the stage dancing
Hit it, Lily

She's lots of them
And all one of a kind
But the most important things
Was what was on her mind
Pale, pink satin
Worn out in a week
But she loved them the most
And you say
Go ahead, Lily
Hit it

No explanations
And I tell you no lies
He says nothing

And that is how
Songs are written
Stories are told
Rumors are started
That is how songs are written
Stories are told
Rumors are started

Go ahead, Lily
Hit it
Hit it
It's about time, Lily
Hit the stage...dancing
I know....Lily...
Rock a little
Hit it
Hit the stage

Ooh...
Do do...
Do do
Oh...
Ooh...
Oh....

Hit it
Rock a little
Hit it
It's about time, Lily
Well...
Yeah...
Well, I know her...
I know she went home
It's about time, Lily
Lily
Hit the stage
