Beauty And The Beast

Piano Demo

Stevie: Well, this is gonna be a fun tape.
Male Voice: Okay, what’d you say this one was?
Stevie: Ok. This is a song that I wrote after the second screening of “Beauty And The Beast”, of which I’m going to buy a copy if it costs me a thousand dollars, because…it is so fabulous.
Male Voice: Did you see the one with George C. Scott, then?
Stevie: No. I saw the one with…who was it? We don’t even know. It’s French.
Male Voice: Mmhmm
Stevie: All in French subtitles…it’s incredible.
Male Voice: Oh.
Stevie: It couldn’t possibly…be…I mean, there’s something in it that’s just so real, that it…it’s kinda…scary.
Male Voice: It’s “The Beauty And The Beast”.
Stevie: But, the story of “Beauty And The Beast” is just so incredible. Because…he’s so ugly that…he’s so good, and he’s so kind. And, he has her to pay back a debt from his father. But, when she goes back to all her gay friends…fun friends, you know. And she keeps…she’d look in the mirror and she’d see his face, and it’s just like, “I’ll grieve if you don’t come back, and I’ll die”. You just…in your own life, you think, “boy, you can have all the riches, and this and that in the world, and if you don’t have the look of…of that, in someone else’s eyes, forget it! It’s not happening. And she rushes home to get him, and she goes…
Male Voice: Yeah
Stevie: “Le bête! Le bête, where are you”, you know, and she’s searching and searching, and he’s laying on the ground, and he’s dying. And, he said a beast can only die. A man could fight, but, the poor beast can only die. It killed me.
Anyway, I’ll get it up again. When I do, I’ll call ya. It’s like…I saw it once, and I was knocked out with the photography…and the candleholders that were real hands…that would point. That was so weird. The fireplaces with the two heads on each side…where the guys were like, were real…they’d go…Oh, it’s so funny. Isn’t it, Tom?
Tom: Yeah, I’m sure it is.
Stevie: It’s so strange! The only part we didn’t like…we…the end…we thought fell apart a little bit.
Tom: Yeah
Stevie: But, the…all of it up until the last three minutes
Tom: It looked like Teddy’s head
Stevie: was just…incredible! I mean…the fairy tale of all fairy tales. I didn’t even remember the story. So, I was totally blissed out, cause I was expecting…some dumb, unpleasant show. So this is the story, and in this song…both people are switching back and forth in the roles of Beauty and the Beast, because in…in true life, you know, if you’re going with someone, you are…whether you’re the man or the woman, you are the beauty, and you are the beast sometimes…because you just are, you know? And when you see the movie, you’ll really know what I mean.
Male Voice: That’s nice!

You’re….
Stevie: I knew I’d do that. Sorry. This is so complicated. It doesn’t seem, but it is.
You’re…not a stranger…to me
And you…
Are something…to see
You don’t
Even know…
How to please
You’re unaware
You see a lot
But you don’t know how to leave

My darling
Lives in a world of pleasure and pain
An old child
Misunderstood
A child
Timeless…
Is the creature
Who is wise
And timeless
Is the prisoner
In disguise

Oh…
Who…
Is the beauty
Who, the beast
Will you die
Of grieving
When I leave
Two children
Much too blind
To see
I could die…die
In your shadow
I believe

My love…
Lives in a world

Stevie: Well, this hard. I can’t see it.

My love…
Is a man
Who has not been tamed
My love…
Lives in a world
Of false pleasure and pain
We come
From different worlds
We are the same…
We come…
From different worlds, but we are the same
I never doubted…
Your…beauty
I’m changed….
I’m…changed…
I’ve changed…
Changed…
I never doubted…
Doubted your…beauty….
I’ve changed…

Stevie: A really hard song to play. I mean, to get through it one time would be…
Male Voice: I know. ?
Stevie: Hard chords?
Male Voice: Umm….well…
Stevie: Great
Male Voice:  I could tell you something to help out. Microphone
Stevie: If there’s some tape…well, tape ’em where, Tom?
Male Voice: It’s not hard.
Stevie: I’m a genius. Sometimes I’ll even surprise myself.
Male Voice: Yeah, well, at least you’re joking. I like that.
Stevie: Taping the words to the candle…making history here. You know what? If I had my glasses…if I had my glasses…
Male Voice: Where?
Stevie: Upstairs. I could see. My stupid socks?
Male Voice: Tom?
Stevie: Couldn’t we just play chords for a minute? Play the verse all the way through without singing?
Male Voice: Uh, no. You can go ahead and sing.
Stevie: Ok. I’m gonna do it a little slower.
Male Voice: I just need to hear it one or two times.

You’re….

Stevie: No, wrong chord

You’re…
Not a stranger
To me
And you
Are something
To see
Don’t…
Even know…
How to please
You see a lot
But you’re unaware
Of how to leave
See a lot, but you’re unaware of how to leave

Stevie: The second verse

My love…
Lives in a world

Stevie: No

My love…
Lives in a world
That is not mine
An old child
Misunderstood
And out of time
Timeless…
Is the creature
Who is wise
And timeless
Is the prisoner
In disguise

Stevie: This is the chorus.

Oh, who…
Is the beauty

Stevie: Wait a minute; I’d rather start it lower.

Who…
Is the beauty
Who the beast
Will you die….
Of grieving
When I leave
Two children
Much too blind
To see
I could die
In your shadow
I believe

Stevie: And the middle probably goes, C…A, or whatever that is
Male Voice: I have this down correctly? Timeless is the creature who is wise?
Stevie: Yes
Male Voice: Timeless is the prisoner in disguise

My love…
Is a man
Who has not been tamed
My love…
Lives in a world
Of false pleasure…and pain
We come
From different worlds
We are the same…
I never doubted….
Your beauty
I’ve changed
I never doubted…
Your beauty…
I’ve changed
I have changed
I’ve changed

I never doubted…
I never doubted…
I never doubted
Your beauty
I’ve changed…

Stevie: Kinda understand it a little? Do you think it’s good to do the solo, and that, and go out on it, or come back to something else? Is that okay?
Male Voice: Nice
Stevie: I mean, do we want orchestration? I mean, there’s some heavy…
Male Voice: Yeah
Stevie: It says, “my darling lives in a world that is not mine”. It’s hard for me to read and play, cause it’s so dark. “An old child, misunderstood…out of time. Timeless, is the creature who is wise, but timeless is the prisoner in disguise”.
Male Voice: Really good

Tusk “Blues Jam”

You’re…
Not a stranger
To me
You
Are something
To see
You don’t
Even know
How to please
You say a lot
But you’re unaware
How to please

My darling
Lives in a world
That is not mine
An old child
Misunderstood
And out of time
Timeless
Is the creature
Who is wise
And, timeless
Is the prisoner
In disguise

Oh
Who…
Is the beauty
Who the beast
Would you die
Of grieving
When I leave
Two children
Much too blind
To see
Oh, but I would fall
In your shadow
I believe

Ooh…
My love
Is a man
Who’s not been tamed
My love
Lives in a world
Of false pleasure and pain
We come
From different worlds
But we are the same…
I never doubted
Your beauty
I’ve changed
I never doubted
Your beauty
I’ve….
Changed…
I’ve….
Ooh…ooh…
Ahh….
Ooh…ooh…ooh….
I’ve…changed
I’ve changed
